BEAT SPACE BEAT

Where the body leads, imagination follows

A Neurodivergent Methodology for dance, developed by Sivan Rubeinstein

Sivan is a neurodiverse artist whose work is redefining the way we learn, teach, and experience dance. Moving away from traditional methods that rely on “counts” and rigid structures, she encourages dancers and participants to engage with rhythm, music, and movement in a way that feels intuitive, responsive, and harmonically rich. In Sivan’s practice, the body leads, the music guides, and creativity flows.

Through her method, Beat Space Beat, Sivan creates a space where dancers are invited to explore movement in ways that honour their individual rhythms, instincts, and perspectives. The work is collaborative, experimental, and deeply attentive to each participant’s experience, offering opportunities to overcome both technical and emotional challenges. In this environment, dancers build confidence, develop new ways of thinking about rhythm and coordination, and learn to respect and respond to one another’s creative decisions.

The impact of Sivan’s approach is profound.

James Hitchins, Educational Co-ordinator at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, notes: "Sivan’s project had a transformative effect on the dancers who worked with her. The participants learned to overcome emotional and technical obstacles, and to respect each other’s creative decisions. I believe the project will have a lasting effect on the participants and how they practice as creative artists."

By centering neurodivergent voices and experiences, Sivan challenges conventional pedagogy and opens up new possibilities for dance. Her method is not just about learning steps—it’s cultivating awareness, connection, and creative expression in ways that are meaningful and liberating.

Beat Space Beat is more than a teaching method—it is a philosophy of movement that celebrates difference, nurtures creativity, and empowers dancers to explore their artistry in ways that feel authentic, collaborative, and deeply human.
